A Young Lady Rises Above Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Treatment For Her Hazardous And Abusive Drinking, And Increases Her Self Worth

Emily was a forty-seven-year-old financial analyst who was sick of feeling depressed everyday and fed up with her excessive and hazardous drinking behavior. In a word, she was sick of feeling tired every morning, she was angry with herself for spending her hard-earned money on a valueless habit, she was tired of going through failed relationship after failed relationship because of her irresponsible drinking, she missed her old drive for doing various things she enjoyed, and she hated the hangovers she went through on a regular basis.

In addition to the perceptible alcohol-related health issues she was going through, conceivably the most regretful part of her drinking routine was the untrustworthy and fraudulent person she had become. In her heart she knew that she had been deceitful about her drinking activities with relatives, family, and friends and she also knew she had been less than truthful with herself about the "beneficial" consequences of drinking. Not only this but she justified wolfing down two or three alcoholic beverages before going to social activities and she also rationalized needing three or four drinks as soon as she got up so that she could cope with the "stress" at her place of employment. Simply put, Emily got to a time in her life when she finally saw that she hit the bottom of the barrel in her life and was now prepared to begin the slow road to recovery.

One of the key ways that Emily put her "plan" into action was by asking for a transfer at her workplace. When her request was approved, she moved 250 miles away to a different location. If nothing else, this unquestionably made making new pals and detaching herself from her old buddies easier. Then she contacted a healthcare practitioner in her new town and scheduled an appointment for a complete physical and psychological exam.

After meeting with the healthcare practitioner and going through several lab tests, it was determined that Emily had made the transition from alcohol abuse to alcoholism and, as a result, needed alcohol detox and alcohol rehab. At this difficult time, the doctor made it a point to review the various alcoholic symptoms and the typical symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to taking a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, the healthcare practitioner also told Emily that her psychological evaluation revealed that she was clinically depressed and in need of treatment for this medical problem.

Due to her readiness to follow through with the treatment program, after ten weeks of inpatient treatment, Emily was ready to begin rehabilitation on an outpatient basis. At this point, she started working at her new job and over a period of a few weeks began fortifying her body by exercising, drinking filtered water, eating healthy foods, living an alcohol-free way of life, and taking vitamins and minerals.

After nearly ten weeks of outpatient rehab during which time she never went through a relapse, Emily stopped going to alcohol therapy and instead started going three times per week to local AA meetings. Going to these meetings helped Emily continue her alcohol-free lifestyle, they gave her the support she needed, and they served as a steady reminder of the dangerous consequences that are associated with abusive and careless drinking. Compared with her life just a few short months ago, life was now worthwhile and full of potential that she could have never hoped for or achieved while while she was engaged in abusive drinking behavior.
