A Married Couple Becomes Nervous About Their Abusive And Irresponsible Drinking And Deliberates Whether They Manifest Any Alcohol Dependency Signs
Lenny and Angie have been married for eight years. They wanted to have some fun and excitement before they decided to have a family and so they consciously created an incredibly dynamic social life.
The principal difficulty, it needs to be underscored, is that virtually everything they do socially includes drinking. For instance, all of the family get-togethers, parties with friends, dinner engagements, happy hours, and sporting events they go to have something to do with drinking.
If they were occasional drinkers this wouldn't be such a difficult situation. Given the fact that they drink quite heavily, however, they are starting to notice some unmistakable alcohol-related problems in their lives.
For instance, just three weeks ago Lenny was placed in custody for a third DUI and has been calling off from work due to alcohol-related health problems. In addition, Lenny's last two or three performance assessments at work have been less than satisfactory and he has begun to fail to recall what he does or says while he drinks. Finally, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to exhibit anxiety about his drinking activities.
Similar to Lenny's situation, Angie has been feeling unhappy with life and to deal with this, she has been drinking more than any time in the past six months. Not only this, but Angie has been experiencing a lot of migraine headaches and going through agonizing hangovers because of her drinking. Finally, Angie has been feeling significantly less energetic in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least two days per week, and she has been receiving some well-deserved criticism from her relatives, friends, family members, and coworkers about her hazardous and careless drinking.
One Saturday evening while watching TV, Lenny and Angie flipped through the channels and found a TV special about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This television program was a real bombshell to Angie and Lenny because numerous alcohol facts that were gone over seemed like they were directly associated with numerous alcohol related problems Lenny and Angie had been suffering through.
With thoughts of the television documentary still fresh in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been exhibiting could mean that they are alcohol dependent or conceivably becoming alcohol dependent. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he recommended that they schedule an appointment with one of the therapists at the local alcohol treatment center to find out more about the gravity of their drinking difficulties.
Strangely enough, although their drinking circumstances hadn't yet changed, it was apparent that Angie and Lenny were at least addressing their drinking problems, they were eager to find out more about their drinking behavior, and they were interested in discovering how they could notably cut down the severity or eliminate the alcohol-related problems that had started to emerge.
When Lenny and Angie went to bed that evening, they made up their minds that the next day, Lenny would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the alcohol treatment center located in the middle of town. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to overcome the alcohol-related issues that had become apparent in their lives, they truly had the best night's sleep they could remember in the last five weeks.
